::I'm an Australian citizen visiting Malaysia for a holiday, with my family, and parked the car in a towing without knowing, as all the signs are marked in Malay near Petaling Street, Chinatown, to visit the night market. On return the car was towed away to the Balai Police station. To retrieve the car I had to meet the police corporal. I explained to him that it was my mistake for parking the car in the wrong location and he charged me MYR 400 (100 for towing and 300 for keeping the car in the compound for less than 30 minutes). No receipt was given. I suspect he money has gone to his pocket. I tried to contact he Balai polis by phone after coming to the hotel and the person who picked up the phone could not even speak English. I suspect this is a well organised racket by few police personnel. I advise all readers about the dangers.
